One of the great events of the summer, the San Clemente Ocean Festival is open to everyone. If you paddle, surf, swim, run, SUP, dory, have kids or enjoy just being at the beach... you will love the San Clemente Ocean Festival.

Back this year will be the California Waterman & Waterwomen Championships with $5,000 in cash prizes to the top male & female overall point scorers.
A new addition to 2012, The Surf Race to Victory SUPCross, will showcase the thrills and spills of SUP racing's newest format. The exciting SUPCross races features competitors sporting helmets, colorful jerseys and big fast SUP boards. $2,500 in prize money available to top men & women finishers.
All Saturday July 21 entries to get either killer race lycra (for California Waterman & Waterwomen Championships) or Victory Koredry surf shirt (Surf Race to Victory SUPCross).
Sunday July 22 entries to receive cool San Clemente Ocean Festival design event tee and ocean racing swim cap.

The California Waterman & Waterwoman Championships & Surf Race to Victory SUPCross combine for awesome athletic events at Ocean Festival
(San Clemente) This summer the nation's top ocean racers, surf lifesavers and stand-up paddle boarders (SUP) will battle this summer at the San Clemente Pier July 21 (Saturday) and July 22 (Sunday). The ocean athletes will be competing for over $7,500 in cash prizes and Southern California bragging rights of being top kahuna.
Saturday (July 21) events are for California's top lifesavers, watermen & waterwomen & stand up paddleboarders. The competition includes lifesaving events and the new Surf Race to Victory SUPCross.
In the California Waterman & Waterwoman Championship, ocean lifeguards will race in multiple events to score points that go towards an overall championship worth $5,000 in prize money. Events include the Open Ocean Paddle (surf ski, paddleboard, SUP) Surf Race (swim sprint), National Doryman Association Race, Surf Ski Race, Paddleboard Race, International and American Ironmans. Top athletes to watch include former United States Olympian Mitch Kahn and San Clemente residents Rob Pelky and SUP racer Brandi Baksic. The visiting Australian Lifesaving Team will keep competition lively as the best Aussies and American lifesavers face off at the pier.
The Surf Race to Victory SUPCross, a new event for 2012, will showcase the thrills and spills of SUP racing's newest format. The exciting SUPCross features competitors sporting helmets, jerseys, and big fast SUP boards. Starting from the sand before a "V" shaped course, SUP racers charge through the surf and round outside buoys twice before catching waves back to the finish. The exciting knockout format is run in heats with top finishing racers advancing into each next round. Top racers to watch out for include Anthony Vela (Los Angeles), Fernando Stalla (Mexico) Candace Appleby of San Clemente.
In addition, for kids this year on Saturday morning will be the Dolphin Dash. It is a really fun kid's beach running event. The event has varying distances of ½ mile to one-mile courses for kid's ages 7 thru 12.
On Sunday (July 22), the California Waterman & Waterwoman Championships offers exciting and fun-filled ocean swims, beach runs, biathlons (run-swim) and SUP races for everyone. Returning to Sunday is the Biathlon, a popular running (5k) and swimming (1000m) multi-sport endurance event. The premiere event is the One Mile Ocean Swim (event #15 at 12:00PM) in which over 200 swimmers participated last summer. Other events include, the 3.0 Mile SUP Race, San Clemente Waterman (run-swim-SUP), Run-Swim-Runand young swimmer's favorite - the Splash & Dash.
For non-swimmers and those who want to run, the Ocean Festival will have the 5K Beach Run. Participants get a chance to run at the waters edge along San Clemente's famous golden shores (one of the only of its kind in Southern California).
Other fantastic activities planned at this year's event include: Grom's Rule Surf Contest, The Ocean Art Show, Woody Car Show, Fishing Derby, Pancake Breakfast, Children's Pavilion and a Beach BBQ and Saturday Night beach concert.
Events are open to everyone. Prize money, special San Clemente Ocean Festival and sponsor prizes will be awarded Saturday (July 21). On Sunday (July 22) special Ocean Festival medallions will be awarded to top age-group finishers. Entrants both days to receive an Ocean Festival competitor's kit including either a commemorative event tee shirt or surf shirt and swim cap.
The San Clemente Ocean Festival is a non-profit organization in partnership with the City of San Clemente. Monies raised from the Ocean Festival help fund many worthwhile organizations. Scholarships are also provided annually to local high schools.
